The Milwaukie HS a Cappella Choir needs to purchase 50 new robes to replace 30-40 year old heavy smelly robes. Students have raised most of the funds required to purchase the robes. This grant will assure they reach their goal this year.

Grant funds will be used to purchase a document camera to substantially decrease the materials needed to perform labs (such as dissection). The camera will help to display information visually and to decrease dependence and cost on lab specimens and photocopies, and increase classroom reading opportunities.

Funds will pay for tickets for 50 10th graders to see “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and lodging at Southern Oregon University, after reading the novel which will be transformed from the page to the stage. Students will increase their appreciation for, and understand the power of, live dramatic performances.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Grant funds will be used to bring technology and current biology techniques to the hands of students at MHS. Students at Milwaukie will have the same access, experience and opportunities with this rigorous and developing technology, as other students in the district have.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Funds will enhance the theater arts experience of 25–30 Sojourner students, ages 6–12. These funds will extend our program and allow further instruction in the areas of vocal technique, set design, costumes, and movement.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Funds will build a classroom library of high interest young adult literature for students to read daily during Sustained Silent Reading. The objectives are to raise reading interest, increase reading stamina, and increase comprehension.

Grant funds will be used to purchase painting supplies for use in both electives and the flow classroom. Sojourner elementary offers electives that span the multiple intelligences for all children in grades 1-6.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Students will study the text “Lazarillo de Tormes,” a classic of 1500’s Spanish literature over the course of the academic year, which will culminate at the end of the year by attending the bilingual play of the same title produced by Milagro Theater of Portland. This will forge a strong connection between students, parents, Spanish language and literature and benefit the local community.
